Frank Bachler and the town
of Meredith was served papers at the town meeting on 9/11/2007. Mr. Bachler
accepted the papers without comment before the meeting started. Shortly
before the board went into executive session, Billie Kunzang, President of the
Meredith Defense Fund, requested the floor to make the following
statement:
At the end, she
asked to speak before the meeting was
adjourned. She said that the Article 78 was filed on behalf of the MDF and 80+
Meredith residents, the purpose being to annul and invalidate Local Law #4,Wind
Energy Facilities Law, which was passed despite overwhelming opposition by
Meredith residents. Billie then asked him to verify that he had been served, which he did.
Then someone else spoke, and
complained about the condition of his road.........he was paying more
in taxes and getting less for it.
Mr Bachler then went on a tirade, and told Billie
Kunzang to go back and tell her husband, Mr. Kunzang, that it was because of lawsuits like
this one that the Town had to budget $20K for attorney fees. Billie told him she was not married
and he replied then who is Billie Kunzang? She explained to him that she was Billie Kunzang and
that she was not married. Billie then replied "How much of the attorney fees for the year
were spent to pay Rosemary Nichols (Town attorney) fees for writing a wind ordinance
that the Planning Board had already spent over a year researching and writing".
He then started to backtrack, and said that not all that money was
spent on the wind ordinance, then said this conversation was not productive
and motioned to go into executive session. When asked for
what reason, he said to discuss lawsuits, and when pressed said that there were
2 pending. He refused to state what they were, and essentially said that he could
do what he pleased because he was the Supervisor.
